Chef Michael Mina’s “My Egypt” at International Smoke
One thing about me? I LOVE photographing events…especially when dinner is involved! So when I got the call to photograph Chef Michael Mina’s new recipe book release at International Smoke, I said yes immediately.
As a San Francisco event photographer, I’ve had the pleasure of working at some of the city's most exciting venues, but this night was truly special. Chef Michael, known for his award-winning Mina Group restaurants, hosted an intimate dinner celebrating his latest book, My Egypt: Cooking From My Roots. Guests enjoyed a multi-course meal, book signings, and behind-the-scenes stories from the chef himself.
The energy in the room was electric. Longtime Mina restaurant supporters gathered for a tableside chat with Chef Michael Mina and Ayesha Curry. Chef Michael shared what it was like for him to revisit his roots and pay homage to his heritage in his cooking. The pair also reflected on their journey in bringing International Smoke to life together—from curating its bold, global flavors to designing a dining experience that keeps guests coming back.
And, of course, the food! Guests indulged in a curated menu featuring International Smoke’s signature dishes, including Ayesha Curry’s Double Duck Wings, Chef Michael Mina’s Tuna and Eyptian Falafel, and “Peking” Pork Belly Bao Buns—each plate a testament to the delicious, innovative flavors that make this restaurant a Bay Area favorite.
